In 2017, we really wanted to step up our volunteer and stewardship efforts, and we ended up with some great volunteer events and a lot of good work and fun times. This year of #CaimanCares capped off in December with both of our offices pulling off some major philanthropic endeavors.
The Caiman team at Facebook partnered with their clients to support the Costaña School. Embedded in this public school is the San Francisco 49ers Academy. Located in East Palo Alto, CA, less than a mile from Facebook’s HQ, the San Francisco 49ers Academy is a private non-profit agency embedded in the public school system providing on-site services, staff, and programs to middle and high school students. This unique and innovative model allows the 49ers Academy to address the ongoing challenges facing low-income students and help bridge the opportunity gap that they face daily. In December, the Caiman team organized a holiday gift drive focused on making the holidays special for middle school-aged students from low-income families. We also organized two work parties at the school. There is a map of the United States painted on the playground, but it was incomplete. The first week of December, our team arrived with our client partners to paint the names of each state and their capital cities onto the map…in under 2 hours! The following week we came back to the school and spread playground mulch in the pre-kindergarten area with some help from some awesome 7th and 8th graders. We also assembled a playhouse gifted by the Facebook Marketing team, and we hear the kids love it.
On top of all this, we raised over $1500.00 for the school’s Adopt-A-Family program. If you’re interested in supporting this cause, the school is still accepting donations here.
Our eBay account team sponsored a Toy Drive supporting the Champions for Children at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford. It’s the only health care network in the Bay Area — and one of the few in the country — exclusively dedicated to pediatric and obstetric care.
Our donations spanned from coloring books to LEGOs to gift cards, and will directly support care for thousands of kids including stocking the playroom, celebrating a special occasion, and providing a positive distraction during a scary procedure.
Northwest Harvest is Washington's own statewide hunger relief agency. Their mission is leading the fight for hungry people statewide to have access to nutritious food while respecting their dignity and promoting good health. Northwest Harvest distributes food to a network of more than 370 food banks, meal programs, and high-need schools throughout Washington State.
In December, volunteers from Caiman along with representatives from Verizon, Wells Fargo, REI, and Boeing helped to package healthy foods for families in need. The food of the day was Oats. In total we packaged 8,000 pounds of oats which was enough to feed 6,154 families!
